The above pictures show the Welland Canal's eight locks and two ports. It is a breathtaking experience to watch the canal locks lift and lower theses huge ships with ease. Gazing at the ships as they leave the locks and pass by you will literally make your head spin and give you a sense that the earth around you is moving and not the big ships.

Since the Welland Canal is in use spring, summer and fall. The only time available for construction crews to do any significant work on the canal is during the winter months. The above pictures depict brave and hearty seaway workers in cold, damp and uncomfortable conditions maintaining this amazing structure.
